The Marina of Horta is the most important marina of the Azores and the fourth most visited in the world. Its location offers excellent shelter from winds of any direction and makes it an unmissable port of call for all yachtsmen en route from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean. Horta is also the meeting point to many international regattas, such as Les Sables – Azores – Les Sables, Vannes – Azores – Vannes, Portsmouth – Horta, Route des Hortensias, ARC Europe, OCC Azores Pursuit Race and many others.
Horta Marina has held the European Blue Flag since 1987.
Horta is a small city filled with sailing history and sea legends. The marina walls are completely covered with paintings and murals made by yachtsmen, hoping for good luck on their sea travels. Tradition has made Horta’s marina an open air gallery. Horta is also home to Peter Café Sport, which is more than just a sailor’s bar: it is a post office, an exchange currency spot, a scrimshaw museum and, most of all, a welcoming happy place for those passing through. The history of the town of Horta is centred around these adventurous yachtsmen.
